Agnes and the Hitman

Written by: Jennifer Crusie & Bob Mayer

Self Discovery Journey Rating: 3.5 stars

This was a quirky little book but I'm not gonna lie, I breezed through it pretty quickly. (Mostly because I wanted to hurry up & finish it so I could get on to a different book...) In a nutshell, Agnes has major anger issues, she purchases the home of where her best friend grew up, she's a caterer & a food columnist who has signed up to host her best friend's daughter's wedding at her home/barn where mob connections abound leading up to the wedding. Her current boyfriend severely undermines her, to the betterment of himself & Agnes winds up dating a hitman.

Sounds confusing, right?

It actually does all come together but there is still some major confusion as to how SO many people were killed in Agnes' kitchen, right up until the day before the wedding & she somehow had enough time to clean up all the dead bodies, remove all the blood stains, paint the entire exterior of her house, new shutters & all, uncover a hidden bomb shelter in her basement, repair her torn up yard (caused by a murderous so-called friend), house 2 flamingoes in her backyard....and that's just the start of it. There was so much going on in this story & everything was so unlikely, I simply had to take it for what it was & enjoy the quirkiness.

I still don't know how a woman who's hit several different men over the head with a frying pan isn't behind bars or how the government/mob/local authority connections were intertwined. I guess the ol' you rub my back, I'll rub yours was at play here.

Overall, not a book I'd read again but I got through it & it wasn't terrible...just not necessarily believable!
